Renaissance Hospital Applies Trace to Streamline Revenue Processes Groves, Tex., February 8, 2010Renaissance Hospital recently purchased Trace communication management system to integrate revenue processes hospital-wide. Located in Southeast Texas, Renaissance Hospital Groves is a 91-bed acute care freestanding community hospital. As a locally owned and operated facility, revenue cycle performance is a top priority at Renaissance. The driving force for Trace is boosting performance through improved communication and documentation across the revenue cycle. “Trace will manage communication internally and with our physicians, patients and payers,” said Michael L. McEachern, FACHE, Chief Executive Officer. “It will help ensure that when a patient arrives, we have the documentation we need to support both care and billing for their services.” Renaissance will use Trace to coordinate revenue cycle activities such as scheduling, registration and authorization. Patient access, for example, will capture insurance verification for radiology services. Once captured, radiology staff will use Trace to retrieve benefit information for walk-in patients. “Easy retrieval ensures that all employees can find records when they need them, even if they didn’t initiate the original exchange,” said McEachern. This alone will resolve multiple bottlenecks in our process.” In scheduling, Trace will be used to electronically capture and route physician orders to appropriate service areas. By capturing and storing orders through Trace, Renaissance will reduce confusion, re-work and duplication among staff. Trace will also serve as a resource for daily meetings held to review patient status. With a chronological view of authorization activities surrounding each patient, leaders can make more informed decisions regarding next steps for the plan of care. “Better coordination across the continuum of care lets us know not only that our patients are approved, but exactly what they are approved for,” said McEachern. Among other Trace initiatives, Renaissance will also consider opportunities to support self-pay by documenting patient financial information and deductible agreements.
