Clark Memorial Hospital Selects TRACE to Protect Revenue, Save Time

Jeffersonville, Ind., December 23, 2008

Clark Memorial Hospital recently purchased TRACE by The White Stone Group to document routine administrative processes. The hospital will begin implementation in its registration and care coordination departments.

Clark Memorial’s primary objective in selecting TRACE was to establish evidence to prevent and overturn denials. According to Theresa Scholl, Director of Patient Financial Services, Clark Memorial typically writes off approximately $2.2 million gross charges in denials per year. By using TRACE as proof of its communication with payers, the hospital aims to save at least half of this amount.

"We faced a lot of he-said, she-said," said Scholl. "And we didn’t have that proof point to back up our side of the story. With TRACE, we will have proof to defend against these denials."

Before TRACE, insurance companies often denied claims for lack of precert or authorization after stating that these activities were not required. TRACE will be used as proof that authorization and insurance verification have been appropriately secured.

Clark Memorial will also use TRACE to capture online eligibility. "In the past, we went online to find information but didn't have a way to capture what we found," said Scholl. "With TRACE, we can capture a list of these benefits electronically."

In addition to capturing payer communication, the hospital will also to use TRACE to streamline internal communication among staff. This will help eliminate manual processes and establish accountability between team members.
