BroMenn Healthcare Selects OptiVox to Manage Hand-offs in Two Illinois Hospitals Bloomington, Ill., April 13, 2009BroMenn Healthcare System recently joined a growing list of Illinois hospitals that have implemented the OptiVox hand-off solution to manage communication among caregivers. In its company are Provena Health System, Rush-Copley Medical Center and Ingalls Memorial Hospital, among others. According to the Joint Commission's 2009 National Patient Safety Goals, "ineffective communication is the most frequently cited root cause for sentinel events." In response, hospitals nationwide are developing prevention strategies by taking a new approach to hand-off communication management. OptiVox facilitates hand-off delivery via telephone and provides secure online access for hand-off monitoring and management. BroMenn employed a SaaS (Software as a Service) model that provides secure internet and phone access to remotely-hosted software applications. This service facilitates technology implementation without requiring a large, upfront investment of capital and technical resources. BroMenn anticipates a return on its technology investment with a reduction in time required for hand-offs at shift change and patient transfer. By eliminating interruptions and distractions during these transitions, OptiVox has been proven to reduce hand-off time by an average of 50 percent. The time savings allows staff to dedicate more time to direct patient care and attribute less overtime to lengthy and inefficient hand-offs. About BroMenn Healthcare The hospitals of BroMenn Healthcare System have served the residents of central Illinois for more than 100 years. Hospitals include BroMenn Regional Medical Center (BRMC) in Normal, and Eureka Community Hospital (ECH) in Eureka. For more information about BroMenn Healthcare, visit www.bromenn.org
