Saint Joseph's Hospital Adds TRACE to Its Revenue Cycle Arsenal Atlanta, Ga., September 28, 2009Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta has purchased the TRACE platform by The White Stone Group, Inc., in an effort to focus on reducing front-end denials and measuring denial codes against the total claims base. A 410-bed, acute-care facility, Saint Joseph’s is recognized as one of the top specialty-referral hospitals in the Southeast. “We identified TRACE as a tool that will help us both reduce technical and clinical denials and lessen the administrative cost of the appeals process,” said Becky Black, Vice-President of Revenue Cycle. “It’s the time value of money. The longer it takes us to fight denials, the longer the money is not in our bank account earning interest,” explained Black. “I’d rather have use of these funds than allow others to hold on to these funds while we iron out disputes over precertification, approval and coverage issues.” By implementing TRACE to document front-end authorization, Saint Joseph’s will gain proof to immediately overturn technical denials. Phone, fax and electronic records will be accessible through a web-based tracking system for retrieval, sorting and routing. Black emphasizes the value of TRACE in supporting front-end and back-end staff, who are often caught in the battle among payers, physician offices and others. “TRACE underscores the professionalism of our employees by providing concrete proof that they are doing their jobs effectively,” said Black. “When an issue occurs, TRACE also supplies evidence to identify the specific point of breakdown.” Saint Joseph’s is implementing TRACE in pre-registration, registration, back-end precertification, patient financial services and authorization. Payer authorization specialists will also use TRACE for concurrent authorization, clinical updates and ED notification of admission, among other activities.
