TRACE Advisory Board Member Voted President-Elect of National Health Information Association

Chattanooga, TN, July 11, 2008

Rita Bowen, MA, RHIA, CHPS, director of Health Information at Erlanger Health System, has been voted president-elect of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).

A member of the TRACE Advisory Board since 2004, Bowen has spearheaded the implementation and growth of the TRACE communication management system at Erlanger.

“When you’re talking about denials, you need to be able to collapse information about a patient so you can find it and trace the communication events,” said Bowen.

With TRACE, Erlanger has recovered nearly $400,000 in denials, reduced its percentage of days denied from eight percent to less than one percent and prevented more than $3 million in denials.

Bowen will begin serving a three-year term as AHIMA’s president-elect in January 2009. She has been a member of the association since 1975, serving on its Council on Certification and security and reliability work group. Bowen frequently lectures on the subjects of communication management and patient privacy.

AHIMA is the premier association of health information management professionals. The association’s 50,000 members are dedicated to the effective management of health information needed to deliver healthcare to the public.
